摘要: Toxic gases, vapors, and particles are emitted from concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) into the general environment. These include ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, malodorous contaminated with a wide range of microorganisms. Little is known about health risks exposure to these agents for people living in surrounding areas. Malodor one predominant concerns, there evidence that psychophysiologic changes may occur as result compounds. There paucity data regarding community adverse effects related low-level gas particulate emissions. Most information comes studies among workers CAFO installations. Research over last decades has shown microbial exposures, especially endotoxin exposure, deleterious respiratory effects, which cross-shift lung function decline accelerated time most pronounced effects. Studies naive subjects have inflammatory responses load. This working group, was part Conference on Environmental Health Impacts Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations: Anticipating Hazards—Searching Solutions, concluded great need evaluate exposures toxic environment by CAFOs. should focus not only nuisance odors but also potential concentrating susceptible subgroups, asthmatic children elderly, since been be
