摘要: Marine aquaria claim that they help to elevate the current low profile of marine conservation through public education. The effectiveness as centres for education was assessed using social survey techniques, at three large commercial in south-west England. managers did not believe most visitors were interested receiving educational information, particular on topics. Textual analysis revealed aquaria's interpretative material contained very few references and portrayed a distorted image environment. feedback from questionnaires no evidence an increase visitors' sympathy towards understanding following visit aquarium. majority wanted their levels interpretation. In particular, more information how they, individuals , could contribute preserving As well benefiting conservation, increasing impact have significant advantages, e.g. increased visitor satisfaction numbers. Suggestions these mutual benefits be achieved are briefly outlined. Their success will depend degree cooperation which can forged between conservationists
