摘要: Failure to understand the potential responses of fishers management measures creates a significant risk revisiting familiar scenario perverse and unintended consequences those measures. This paper reports on choice experiment survey evaluate fisher's preferences for various proposed under EU Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) reform process, but conclusions have wider relevance as similar are used by comparable fleets in fisheries globally. The was conducted with involved mixed pelagic demersal Ireland, Denmark Greece. policies were characterized five attributes designed both cover principal CFP proposals integrate ecological, social, economic institutional factors affecting decisions. study uses random utility modelling framework reveal across alternative policy attributes. Results show that while there generally healthy stocks maintaining importance fishing local community, strong interfishery preference differences exist. These most notable relation discard ban use individual transferable rights, favoured Denmark, not Ireland instance. strength these supports assertion no panaceas solutions should be tailored within context specific fisheries. Not doing so could create inappropriately managed may lead unsustainable outcomes.
