Evaluation of Geosat altimeter data with application to tropical Pacific sea level variability

摘要: Repeated Geosat altimeter measurements of sea level at ground track intersections (crossovers) and along collinear nests profiles were used to evaluate data by (1) construction a regional, precise surface made up intersecting profiles, (2) determination the magnitude electromagnetic (EM) bias, (3) generation time series anomaly maps. The first procedure, after elimination radial ephemeris error other long-wavelength signals, established data's internal precision few centimeters. With regard EM comparing repeated for different values significant wave height (SWH) gave value about 1% SWH. final process yielded record whose accuracy was tested comparison with in situ wind-driven model results. On basis these analyses we conclude that can determine changes an rms approximately 4 cm scales month or longer. For determining variability, geophysical records are high-quality, long-term set study ocean dynamics.
