摘要: Background: Maternal prothrombotic disorders may contribute to stroke in the fetus before and during birth. Many of mothers children with perinatal have no previous history pathologic thrombosis. Objective: To determine if finding Factor V Leiden mutation, prothrombin 20210 G-A gene defect, or methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase C677T mutation an asymptomatic mother a child would affect that mother9s ability obtain health insurance. Methods: 1) The authors reviewed literature on genetic risk factors 2) surveyed 17 largest insurance carriers Indiana find diagnosing mothers9 status. Results: Three articles were identified. Twelve companies responded our survey; three had policies testing. Most refused provide clear, useful information their regarding these factors. Conclusions: are currently unable counsel patients9 families long-term implications screening for healthy women need further study.
