摘要: PURPOSE: To investigate the dosimetric consequences and rectal wall (Rwall) sparing effect of three different endorectal balloons (ERBs) for three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) intensity-modulated (IMRT) prostate cancer. METHODS AND MATERIALS: In 20 patients, 4 planning computed tomography scans were made: 1 without ERB 3 with ERB1, ERB2, or ERB3 inserted. Two target volumes defined: only, plus seminal vesicles. The 3D-CRT IMRT techniques used, prescription dose was 78 Gy. 284 treatment plans, Rwall mean dose, normal tissue complication probability, absolute exposed to > =50 Gy (V(50)) =70 (V(70)) calculated. For spatial distribution analysis, inner maps surface histograms generated. RESULTS: Each tolerated well. case 3D-CRT, each showed a statistically significant reduction all measured parameters. ERB2 performed better than ERB1. IMRT, in parameters could not be demonstrated any ERBs. as result dilation, ranging from 8 cm circumference, ERBs resulted relative intermediate high doses. CONCLUSIONS: effect. superior both doses found, which may lead reduced late toxicity. Development user- patient-friendly is warranted increase their acceptability.
