摘要: We analyzed a thrust fault system located in the western Sorrento Peninsula and Capri Island (southern Italy) where several mesoscale structures related to main thrusts, such as Riedel shear planes, overturned folds, minor back-thrust faults, suggest dominant northward tectonic transport. Major generally characterized by ramp-flat geometry, involved Mesozoic Apennine carbonates, Middle Miocene foredeep, unconformable thrust-top basin deposits. The biostratigraphic analysis of calcareous nannoplankton assemblages on sediments indicates an age not older than late Tortonian. propose that this out-of-sequence thrusting stage was regional event widespread entire southern Apennines, probably occurred Pliocene time simultaneously with activity deep-seated faults buried carbonates Apulian platform. These here referred “envelopment thrusts,” were enucleated lower structural level respect allochthonous wedge, representing W–E segments large arcuate structures.
