Accidental Innovation: Supporting Valuable Unpredictability in the Creative Process

摘要: Historical accounts of human achievement suggest that accidents can play an important role in innovation. In this paper, we seek to contribute understanding how digital systems might support valuable unpredictability innovation processes by examining innovators who obtain value from integrate into their work. We describe inductive, grounded theory project, based on 20 case studies, looks the conditions under which people make things keep work open accident, degree they rely work, and incorporate deliberate arranged surroundings. By comparing makers working varied conditions, identify specific factors (e.g., technologies, characteristics technologies) appear accidental show certain specified not only remain accident but also intentionally design surroundings invite exploit accidents. Based these findings, offer advice for access unpredictability.
