摘要: Thickened liquids are a commonly recommended intervention for dysphagia. Previous research has documented differences in temporal aspects of bolus transit paste versus liquid consistencies; however, the influence viscosity on tongue movements during swallowing remains unstudied. We report an analysis consistency lingual kinematics swallowing. Electromagnetic midsagittal articulography was used to trace body and dorsum movement sequential swallows three consistencies: thin, nectar-thick, honey-thick liquids. Rheological profiling conducted characterize density among six (two each consistency). Eight healthy volunteers participated; four were younger age cohort (under 30) over 50. The primary difference observed across interest previously unreported phenomenon sip-mass modulation; both flavor appeared sip-sizing behaviors. Additionally, significantly greater variability patterns older subject group. Systematic variations related restricted downward movement. Otherwise, present failed find empirical evidence significant modulations behaviors thin range.
