摘要: Because propofol has cerebral effects similar to those observed for barbiturates, we postulated that it too might offer protection against a focal ischemic insult. Spontaneously hypertensive male rats were anesthetized with halothane (in 50% O2/balance N2), and their tracheas intubated lungs mechanically ventilated. A right subtemporal craniectomy was performed 10-0 suture placed around the middle artery. Rats then randomly assigned one of two anesthetic groups. In half (n = 14), inspired concentration reduced 0.5-0.7%. remainder discontinued, an intravenous infusion 1% given in doses sufficient produce maintain electroencephalographic burst suppression. The artery reversibly ligated 2 h while pericranial temperature maintained at 37.0 +/- 0.1 degrees C (mean SD). After ligature removed reperfusion confirmed, all allowed recover 96 h. Neurologic evaluations both 24 postischemia. killed brains removed, frozen, sectioned, stained nitro blue tetrazolium. Infarct volume determined by computerized planimetry. Physiologic values between groups, although plasma glucose significantly greater during ischemia group (125 25 vs. 83 8 mg/dl, P less than 0.001). At postischemia, neurologic deficits mild but without difference scores postischemia correlated infarct (r 0.49, 0.02).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
