Chronic liver disease related mortality pattern in Northern Pakistan.

摘要: OBJECTIVE: To describe the mortality pattern pertaining to chronic liver disease (CLD) in Northern Pakistan. DESIGN: descriptive study. PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY: Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, from August 01, 2001 July 31, 2002. SUBJECTS METHODS: Twelve months admission data was reviewed its computerized base. All cases medical were reviewed. Out of these cases, patients identified and their mode presentation, severity illness etiology statistically analyzed. RESULTS: There a total 8529 admissions twelve period 283 (3.31%) deaths. these, 160 deaths causes. 33 (20.6%) had died disease. Other major causes death cerebro-vascular accident (18.7%), malignancy (18.1%) acute myocardial infarction (10.6%). CLD, 12 (36%) presented with gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding, 9 (27%) ascites 6(18%) altered mental status due hepatic encephalopathy. Rest them jaundice fever as initial presentation. 23 (70%) hepatitis C virus (HCV) cause disease, 4 (12%) B (HBV) infection, 3 (9%) both infections no known CONCLUSION: Chronic is this part Pakistan at tertiary care hospital. HCV infection main followed by either HBV or combination viruses. Major manifestations CLD have been failure portal hypertension.
