摘要: OBJECT Intramedullary dermoid cysts are rare tumors of the spinal cord. Presentation with rapid onset paraparesis or quadriparesis (onset within 2 weeks) is rarer still. The authors present their experience in management and outcome patients such a presentation. METHODS Patient records between 2000 2014 were retrospectively reviewed to identify those intraspinal who presented rapid-onset quadriparesis. Their clinical, radiological, operative, follow-up data analyzed. RESULTS Of total 50 managed during study period, 10 (20%) quadriparesis; 9 ranged age from 8 months years, 1 patient was 25 years old. A dermal sinus seen lumbar region 4 patients, sacral 3, thoracic 1, no found. All except secondary infection intramedullary cyst. One rupture cyst extension into central canal up medulla. Early surgery done soon after presentation all patients. Among underwent (1 did not undergo surgery), excision 3 near-total partial surgery, showed significant improvement neurological status, remained stable. died as result an uncontrolled being discharged local facility for wound infection. CONCLUSIONS recognition associated timely surgical intervention can eliminate chances acute deterioration function. Even quadriparesis, appropriate antibiotic therapy prompt provide reasonably good outcomes these
