摘要: Six lake-wide surveys were carried out on Lake Superior between May and November of 1973. The zooplankton population was found to be dominated by calanoids, total abundance generally low in comparison with the lower Great Lakes. Little variation seen numbers/m3 through sampling season, but biomass increased five-fold September. lake appeared support a permanent year-round community composed Diacyclops bicuspidatus thomasi larger calanoid species. This augmented annually succession summer forms which developed initially inshore then spread various degrees into offshore waters. zoopknkton data fitted fifteen zones defined previous authors. procedure showed quite heterogeneous greatest abundances being zones. Seasonal cycles both numbers varied widely, zone patterns could easily grouped general geographic area. use averages revealed strong correlation surface water temperature. Cluster analysis used independently define regions similar species composition. that relativey homogeneous throughout spring. Local clusters many areas during early and, fall, distribution heterogeneous. Homogeneous conditions returned quickly late fall turnover. Most occurred adjacent probable land-use effects. life histories selected major examined cases where identification procedures permitted their analysis.
