摘要: Streptococcus pneumoniae is an important human pathogen that often carries temperate bacteriophages. As part of a program to characterize the genetic makeup prophages associated with clinical strains and assess potential roles they play in biology pathogenesis their host, we performed comparative genomic analysis 10 pneumococcal phages. All genomes are organized into five major gene clusters: lysogeny, replication, packaging, morphogenesis, lysis clusters. phage particles observed showed Siphoviridae morphology. The only genes well conserved all studied those involved integration host addition two genes, unknown function, within replication module. We high percentage open reading frames contained no similarities any sequences catalogued public databases; however, were homologous known virulence including pblB mitis vapE Dichelobacter nodosus, also identified. Interestingly, bioinformatic tools presence toxin-antitoxin system φSpn_6, this represents first time pneumophage has been Collectively, pneumophages contain diverse set various levels similarity among them.
