摘要: Two pairs of genes were identified in Streptococcus mutans with similarity to relBE and mazEF toxin–antitoxin (TA) modules Escherichia coli. Transcription was repressed by amino acid starvation, expression low pH. Mutants lacking MazF, RelE, or both toxins (MRT1) grew broth media formed biofilms as well the parent. Biofilm populations MRT1 more resistant killing than parent single mutants. also exhibited a longer diauxie during growth on glucose inulin displayed decreased phosphoenolpyruvate:sugar phosphotransferase activity. This is first report that demonstrates physiological role for TA Gram-positive bacteria.
