摘要: Abstract The metabolic effects of single injections neuropeptide Y (NPY) into the paraventricular hypothalamus were investigated in an open-circuit calorimeter. Wistar rats tested, with no food available during tests. Over dose range 10–156 pmol NPY had large on respiratory quotient (RQ) while having effect energy expenditure or locomotor activity. RQ unusual both respect to their dose-response and time-dose-response characteristics. lowest (10 pmol) produced a very low latency reduction which indicates decreased utilization carbohydrates as substrate. next higher (20 effect, whereas three doses (39, 78 156 increases indicate increased Surprisingly, latencies RQs dose-dependent over 30 min 20 h highest producing longest effect. finding positive relation response time from few minutes is unprecedented appears represent neuromodulatory that acts concert its neurotransmitter effects. These data highlight central role modulating substrate importance elucidating relationships when investigating NPY.
