摘要: Abstract The effects of somatostatin injections (0.1, 1 and 5 μg) into the paraventricular nucleus hypothalamus (PVN) were investigated in an open-circuit calorimeter. Wistar rats tested, with no food available during tests. 0.1 μg doses produced large long-lasting decreases respiratory quotient, which indicates preferential utilization fats as energy substrate. dose a brief decrease expenditure. Locomotor activity was not affected by any treatment that on quotient expenditure are secondary to changes activity. These findings demonstrate PVN inhibits thermogenesis induces while sparing carbohydrate reserves. However, it is significant substrate utilisation occured at different doses. data constitute first evidence produces primary modulation metabolic parameters central balance. In separate experiments, all three increased blood glucose concentration over one hour period, decreased body weight 24 h period. Food water intake injections. Taken together, these interpreted model signal fat. This mobilises sympathetic mechanisms increase fat levels.
