摘要: Background: Cross-sectional studies indicate that diets provide a higher dietary glycemic index (dGI) are associated with greater risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). No prospective have addressed this issue. Objective: The objective was to prospectively evaluate the effect baseline dGI on progression AMD. Design: calculated as weighted average GIs from foods and evaluated being above or below sex median (women: 77.9; men: 79.3) for 3977 participants aged 55-80 y (58% women) in Age-Related Eye Disease Study. 7232 eligible eyes without advanced AMD were classified into 1 3 categories: group (nonextensive small drusen), 2 (intermediate drusen, extensive pigmentary abnormalities), (large drusen intermediate drusen). With use multifailure Cox proportional-hazards regression, we modeled time maximal relation between Results: Overall, multivariate-adjusted over 8 follow-up (x: 5.4 y) significantly (risk ratio: 1.10; 95% CI: 1.00, 1.20; P = 0.047) high-dGI than low-dGI group. groups 1, 2, 5%, 8%, 17% greater, respectively (P trend < 0.001). latter gives an estimate 7.8% new cases would be prevented 5 if people consumed diet. Conclusion: Persons at progression, especially those high AMD, may benefit consuming smaller amount refined carbohydrates.
