摘要: A Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Medicine (STEM+M) identity, a form of social is the extent to which an individual feels accepted in STEM+M career fields. The development strong identity hinges largely on one's perceived self-efficacy can be bolstered by associating with other areas already exhibits self-efficacy. In this study, basketball camp served as platform for education effort link participants' concepts where they may feel less self-efficacious. Over first 2 years program, known Youth Sports Lab (YSL), two cohorts underrepresented minority (URM) middle school students attended 4-day long hosted at Columbia University partnership Harlem- Albany-based afterschool programs. consisted training, jump plate fabrication, data collection, invited speakers, group-based research projects. Our hypotheses were that participation program would lead improved (1) familiarity, (2) importance, (3) interest STEM+M. Participant responses, gathered from 17-question Likert-scale survey administered before after camp, demonstrated 10 questions significantly increased responses due program. results support conclusion sports-based engineering URM cohort. Future improvements will include midyear student engagement long-term follow-up.
