摘要: Abstract High levels of As (i.e., above the nationally legislated threshold 70 mg kg −1 ) were found in shelf sediment Espirito Santo state Brazil. The elevated content this metalloid propagated to a depth approximately 1.5 m. adjacent beach sands and mangrove sediments also enriched As. variation along profiles was acompained by calcareous-material distribution, which reflects paleogeographical circumstances that promote local reef development during corresponding intervals sedimentation. Arsenic-rich calcareous bioclast materials migrate from surface horizon nearby sediment, thereby replacing part previously entered marine environment with eroded material continent littoral zone. segment Brazilian tropical studied clearly demonstrated enrichment is determined exposure Barreiras formation on coast reefs, are favorable sites for settling bodies biogenic carbonates.
