摘要: Abstract The feasibility of co-digestion chicken manure (CM) and maize silage (MS) without water dilution was investigated in 5-L digesters. Specific methane production (SMP) 0.309 L CH 4  g −1 volatile solids (VS) achieved but only at lower %CM. Above a critical threshold for total ammonia nitrogen (TAN), estimated 7 g N L , VFA accumulated with characteristic increase acetic acid followed by its reduction an propionic acid. During this transition the predominant methanogenic pathway hydrogenotrophic. Methanogenesis completely inhibited TAN 9 g N L . low digestibility mixed feedstock led to rise digestate TS SMP over 297-day experimental period. appeared be failing one digester recovered reducing Co-digestion feasible CM ⩽20% VS, main limiting factor inhibition.
