Vitamin D deficiency among healthy infants and toddlers: A prospective study from Irbid, Jordan

摘要: BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence vitamin D deficiency among healthy infants and toddlers as well its associated factors in Irbid Jordan. METHODS: A total 275 subjects (136 139 toddlers) aged 6-36 months participated study. Information concerning sociodemographic characteristics early feeding patterns collected using a self-guided questionnaire. Plasma calcium phosphorous alkaline phosphatase activity were measured. RESULTS: 28% (16.7% for severe 11.3% deficiency) insufficiency 28.4%. levels showed no correlation with status population. For both age groups significant association found between sun exposure (P < 0.001). infant practices Infants who exclusively breast-fed had higher risk than those bottle-fed. Multivariate logistic regression analyses results that female sex low exclusive breast-feeding main determinants levels. CONCLUSION: is considered be high northern Jordanian toddlers.
