Current Status of Thyroid Fine-Needle Aspiration Practice in Thailand

摘要: Thyroid carcinoma is one of the leading malignancies in Thailand increasingly prevalent female population. Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) cytology a widely used diagnostic tool for evaluation thyroid nodules and cancer. FNA routine procedure universally performed Thai hospitals by variety clinical specialists. Manual guidance first-line choice complemented ultrasound assistance selected cases. Despite national guidelines recommendations, criteria terminology Bethesda System Reporting Cytopathology (TBSRTC) was slowly adopted local settings. Currently, system actively promoted professional societies as uniform reporting system. Experience with has been rarely reported to date-only handful publications are available journals. Our review, addition presenting various aspects Thailand, established first time references certain statistical outputs TBSRTC based on original multi-institutional cohort. The risk malignancy 2,017 operated collected from three tertiary cancer centers 21.7%, 14.7%, 35.9%, 44.4%, 76.7%, 92.6% categories I VI, respectively. several (II IV) higher than estimated recent meta-analysis studies.
