摘要: Megacities are immense sources of air pollutants, with large impacts on quality and climate. However, emission inventories in many them still highly uncertain, particularly developing countries. Satellite observations allow top-down estimates emissions to be made for nitrogen oxides (NOx = NO + NO2), but require poorly quantified a priori information the NOx lifetime. We present method simultaneous determination megacity lifetimes from satellite measurements by analyzing downwind patterns NO2 separately different wind conditions. Daytime ~4 hours at low mid-latitudes, ~8 wintertime Moscow. The derived generally good agreement existing inventories, higher factor 3 Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh.
