Tunable isolated attosecond X-ray pulses with gigawatt peak power from a free-electron laser

摘要: The quantum-mechanical motion of electrons in molecules and solids occurs on the sub-femtosecond timescale. Consequently, study ultrafast electronic phenomena requires generation laser pulses shorter than 1 fs sufficient intensity to interact with their target high probability. Probing these dynamics atomic-site specificity extension soft X-ray spectral region. Here, we report isolated attosecond an free-electron laser. Our source has a pulse energy that is millions times larger any other region, peak power exceeding 100 GW. This unique combination intensity, photon short duration enables investigation electron nonlinear spectroscopy single-particle imaging, unlocking path towards new era science. ultrashort GW offers opportunities for studying imaging.
