DAMPING PROPERTIES AND WIND - INDUCED RESPONSE OF A STEEL FRAME TOWER FITTED WITH LIQUID COLUMN VIBRATION ABSORBERS

摘要: Abstract This paper presents the results of a full-scale installation passive vibration absorber, called Liquid Column Vibration Absorber (LCVA), on 67 m high steel frame communications tower. Twenty individual bi-directional LCVA units were designed to mitigate tower's wind-induced first mode resonant response along both principal axes. Damping properties and tower investigated without system installed, with Single (SLCVA) installed; that is, natural frequency each unit same approximately equal tower; Multiple (MLCVA) frequencies distributed about Both SLCVA MLCVA systems proved be effective methods increasing total structural damping tower, reduced by up 50%.
