摘要: Objective To conduct a systematic review on language outcomes after left and right hemispherectomy in childhood, surgical procedure that involves removing or disconnecting cerebral hemisphere. Methods We searched MEDLINE, Embase, PsycInfo for articles published between January 1, 1988, May 16, 2019. included (1) all types of observational studies; (2) studies which was performed before age 18 years; (3) with standardized scores measuring receptive vocabulary, expressive sentence comprehension, and/or production. calculated mean z the whole group within etiology-specific subgroups. Results Our search identified 1,096 studies, 17 were eligible. The cohort added up to 205 individuals (62% hemispherectomy) assessed 1 15 years surgery. In surgery group, skills impaired (z Conclusion Evidence based largest patient date (205 participants) suggests risk impairment is high, few exceptions. Etiology plays major role postsurgical plasticity. recommend specialist evaluation soon identify intervention targets. Large-scale examining consecutive cases are still needed.
