摘要: Background: We have updated our experience with metastatic carcinoma to the neck of occult origin assess whether increasing use adjunctive radiation therapy has had a significant impact. Methods: This retrospective review 115 patients treated between 1977 and 1990 includes 73 (63%) squamous cell carcinoma. These were analyzed for survival, control disease in neck, incidence subsequent primary tumors. Results: There been no change proportion advanced (N2/N3 = 52; 71%) when compared last report. Surgery included comprehensive dissection 59 (81%) radiotherapy was employed 54 (83% surgically patients). Primary carcinomas within head identified subsequently 9 (12%) patients, including 4 11 (36%) who did not 5 (9%) ( P 0.038). Control (54/73; 74%) improved significantly 0.005) earlier (37/74; 50%), this most apparent those extensive disease. However, cumulative survival at years (45%) different from that previously reported. Conclusion: Our data support increased origin. likelihood will be reduced, but there improvement historical controls.
