摘要: We report on observations of spin dynamics in single ${\mathrm{Yb}}^{+}$ ions immersed a cold cloud spin-polarized $^{6}\mathrm{Li}$ atoms. This species combination has been proposed to be the most suitable system reach quantum regime atom-ion experiments. For $^{174}\mathrm{Yb}^{+}$, we find that atomic bath polarizes ion by 93(4)% after few Langevin collisions, pointing strong spin-exchange rates. hyperfine ground states $^{171}\mathrm{Yb}^{+}$, also rates towards polarization. However, relaxation $F=0$ state occurs 7.7(1.5) collisions. investigate impurity atoms as possible source apparent spin-relaxation leading us interpret observed an upper limit. Using ab initio electronic structure and scattering calculations, explain analyze their implications for observation Feshbach resonances between once is reached.
