Healthcare access and utilization by patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus: does gender matter?

摘要: Objective: To examine access to and utilization of primary healthcare services with respect gender. Greater family child-rearing responsibilities are possible barriers for women HIV infection. Methods: This study was part a prospective, randomized, controlled trial evaluating care HIV-infected patients at Duke University Medical Center (DUMC), tertiary medical center. Subjects were 214 HIV-infected, uninsured or publicly insured participants. Ambulatory visits, emergency room utilization, hospitalization rates, length stay, preventive screening measures, antiretroviral use the outcome measures.
