摘要: Investigations of gut microbiomes have shed light on the diversity and genetic content these communities, helped shape our understanding how host-associated microorganisms influence host physiology, behavior, health. Despite importance microbes to metazoans, changes in composition across alimentary tract, source resident community are limited. Here, using metagenomics 16S rRNA gene sequencing, we assess microbial coding potential foregut, midgut, hindgut a juvenile Panchlora cockroach, which resides refuse piles leaf-cutter ant species Atta colombica. We found significant shift structure throughout three sections sp., through comparison with previously generated metagenomes cockroach’s food niche, reveal that this is influenced by ecosystems sp. occurs. While foregut composed likely originate from symbiotic fungus gardens ants, midgut cockroach-specific. Analogous mammalian systems, appear be dominated Firmicutes Bacteroidetes capacity for polysaccharide degradation, suggesting they may assist degradation dietary plant material. Our work underscores prominence highlights ecological factors underpin function communities metazoans.
