摘要: Red blood cells (RBCs) undergo numerous changes during storage; however, the clinical relevance of these storage "lesions" is unclear. We hypothesized that duration transfused RBCs associated with mortality after repeat sternotomy for cardiac surgery, because patients are at high risk both RBC transfusion and adverse outcome. retrospectively analyzed 434 who underwent median coronary artery bypass graft or valve surgery received allogeneic RBCs. Three-hundred-twenty-one (74%) met criteria eligibility. After adjusting effects confounders total number transfusions, oldest unit was found to be in-hospital (Cox proportional hazard ratio (HR) = 1.151; P < 0.0001) out-of-hospital (HR 1.116; 0.0001). The mean also an independent predictor 1.036; Independent associations between acute renal dysfunction intensive care hospital length stay were observed. outcome surgery. significance this finding should investigated in a large, randomized, blinded trial.
