摘要: Retaliatory killing of large carnivores in response to their attacks on cattle is recognised as one the most important factors causing worldwide declines carnivores. Conversely, hunting believed have been largely eliminated due national and international protection measures. We studied prevalence human-jaguar conflict relative importance retaliatory for jaguar populations Venezuela by means field interviews with hunters ranchers. To predict spatial distribution or we fit a linear regression model. registered 387 livestock 22 humans. Subsistence/commercial appeared common cause human-caused mortality (52%) was less (38%). Jaguars were also killed because public fear, pets, trophy hunters, car accidents. Public motivations kill jaguars did not change through time, suggesting that system introduced 1996 has effective. Methods tools used different, more sophisticated, probably efficient than those hunting. However, products collected from harvested differ between motivation groups included skins, canines, skulls, meat, fat, cubs. Our model indicated subsistence/commercial prevalent over areas still inhabited jaguars. On contrary, mostly predicted where already gone extinct, it an driving factor extirpations.
