摘要: The present research was designed to examine how the presence or absence of ambient light influences appearance metal. stimuli depicted three possible objects that were illuminated by patterns illumination. These generated a single point source, two rectangular area lights, projecting onto translucent white box contained object (and camera) so would be in all directions. materials simulated using measured parameters chrome with four different levels roughness. Observers rated metallic and shininess each sliders. highest metal occurred for surfaces lowest roughness illumination condition, these ratings dropped systematically as increased. For significantly less than conditions value, greater condition intermediate values We also included control depicting shiny plastic reflectance function had both diffuse specular components. highly but they did not appear metallic. A theoretical hypothesis is proposed defining characteristic (as opposed black plastic) sheen over most visible surface area.
