摘要: Ten patients had factitious hypoglycemia due to surreptitious insulin injections diagnosed and were followed for up 15 years (median, 5 years; range, 2 months years). When available, demonstration of anti-insulin antibodies was the most helpful diagnostic test. Decreased plasma C-peptide levels corroborated diagnosis. Young women (nine ten) with knowledge medical profession or relatives diabetes mellitus predominated in sample. Five a history insulin-requiring mellitus. Two eventually committed suicide despite best efforts at therapy. Only three ten made successful transition into productive life after diagnosis established. Factitious remains difficult make, long-term outcome is established unpredictable. All have be confirm before are approached. The confrontation by an experienced team health care professionals who gained patient's confidence through understanding but firm manner. Long-term therapy must planned initiated discharge.
