This report aimed to characterize germarium region sugarcane borer by light and transmission electron microscopy, emphasizing morphological steps ovarian cluster formation. In this insect, four zones could be morphologically identified during most apical end each ovariole Zone I germ line stem cells undergo complete mitotic division, originating cystoblasts. II, cystoblast produces a group eight cells, cystocytes, which are interconnected ring canals. Clusters containing all cystocytes in meiosis, characterizes III. Germ with ultrastructural features apoptosis also detected Zone. IV differentiate, morphologically, into oocyte seven nurse cells. Interstitial somatic pre-follicle exhibit, their cytoplasm, heterogeneous vacuoles degenerated cellular fragments, characterized as apoptotic bodies. Our results pointed out evidences related important control mechanisms for new clusters/follicles production arrangement germarium, resulting from programmed cell death. We believe that characterization formation D. provided valuable information understanding initial oogenesis contributed knowledge reproduction insects.
