摘要: Extinction risk has been linked to biological and anthropogenic variables. Prediction of extinction in valuable fauna may not follow mainstream drivers when species are exploited for international markets. We use results from an International Union Conservation Nature Red List assessment all 377 known sea cucumber within the order Aspidochirotida, many which worldwide as luxury seafood Asian was primarily driven by high market value, compounded accessibility familiarity (well known) marketplace. marine animals often relates closely body size small geographical range but our study shows a clear exception. must lose sight common species, especially those value. Greater human population density poorer economies ranges endangered illustrate that variables can also predict risks animals. Local-level regulatory measures prevent opportunistic exploitation high-value species. Trade agreements, example CITES, aid conservation will depend on technical support low-income tropical countries. The proportion data deficient stresses need research ecology demographics unglamorous invertebrates.
