摘要: The existence of a shared epitope between the hemocyanin marine mollusk Megathura crenulata, better known as keyhole limpet, and schistosomula has been reported. This shown to be major immunogen in human infection. In this study, limpet (KLH) was used measure antibodies recognizing cross-reacting epitopes sera from patients with acute chronic schistosomiasis using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Marked differences IgG IgM antibody response were noted acutely chronically infected at reciprocal serum dilution up 2,560. had mean +/- SD OD490 nm values for 1.0 0.44 1.34 0.6 compared absorbance 0.22 0.10 0.11 respectively. Setting our lowest positive limit greater than 2 above sera, 28 30 previously diagnosed having correctly identified by their response. Of 5 studied longitudinally, persisted same levels 10-13 weeks after treatment. levels, on other hand, showed tendency decrease but remained established cut-off level. study provides further evidence association schistosomulum surface carbohydrate infection demonstrates ability simple non-competitive ELISA microtiter plates coated minute quantities KLH differentiate serologically cases schistosomiasis.
