摘要: Abstract As part of endocrine disruption in catchments (EDCAT) programme, this work aims to assess the temporal and spatial variations disrupting chemicals (EDCs) River Ray, before after commissioning a full-scale granular activated carbon (GAC) plant at sewage treatment works (STW). Through spot passive sampling from effluent river sites, estrogenic anti-androgenic activities were determined by chemical analysis vitro bio-assay. A correlation was found between analyses most potent estrogens (estrone (E1), 17β-estradiol (E2), 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2)) yeast estrogen screen (YES) measurement, both showing clearly reduction activity GAC STW. During study period, annual average concentrations E1, E2 EE2 had decreased 3.5 ng L −1 , 3.1 ng L 0.5 ng L below their limit detection (LOD), respectively, with concentration least 91%, 81% 60%. Annual mean measured YES samples varied 1.9 ng L 0.4 ng L equivalent 2006 2008 representing 79% reduction. Similarly, anti-androgen (anti-YAS) reduced 148.8 22.4 μg flutamide L or 85%. anti-YAS values related each other, suggesting co-existence types mixtures environmental samples. The findings confirm effectiveness removing effluent.
