摘要: To investigate the relationships between pre- and postdexamethasone hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis functioning in depression, we measured levels of baseline urinary free cortisol (UFC), plasma cortisol, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) beta-endorphin. We found that dexamethasone significantly suppressed all levels. All 4 hormones--but not their levels--were higher melancholic subjects than minor simple major depressives. have accumulated evidence depression groups form discrete classes HPA levels; this supports biological heterogeneity hypothesis melancholia. a combination UFC beta-endorphin values yielded most significant diagnostic tool for Our results suggest measurements both hormones may constitute accurate index reflecting escape from suppression by By means pathway analysis, determined causal age, circulating levels, classification various values.
