摘要: The present numerical study, which is an extension of our previous analysis on cracking processes a single pre-existing flaw, focuses the coalescence two parallel open flaws in rock subjected to uniaxial compressive loading. To facilitate systematic investigation, arrangements flaw pair are classified into 11 categories. Simulations engaging AUTODYN conducted each category. results compared with some published physical experimental test results. Eleven typical patterns obtained, good agreement results, include obtained (II) and (VIII″) not being reported studies. information gathered simulations helps identify type (tensile/shear) crack segment involved coalescence. Most cracks initiate at or around tips, except those (IX′) very short ligament length, surfaces away from tip regions. Based simulation properties obtained. Except (IX′), other can be interpreted respect basic types—tensile wing crack, horsetail anti-wing crack. In addition, based segments coalescence, namely tensile shear, T mode (tensile mode), S (shear mode) TS (mixed tensile–shear mode).
