Magic angle Raman optical activity: β-pinene and nopinone

摘要: Applying the Stokes—Mueller formalism to case of right angle scattering chiral molecules randomly oriented in an optically isotropic phase, orientations polarization analyzer scattered beam at ‘magic angle’ ∼ ±35.26° vertical have been identified isolate pure magnetic dipole contribution ROA intensity. Magic spectra of(−) β-pinene and (+) nopinone from 350 1350 cm−1 are presented as first examples. Comparing magic both terpenes with their corresponding depolarized spectra, origin couplet 716 765 spectrum is ascribed interactions between deformations torsions olefinic group a skeletal mode pinane structure.
