摘要: Abstract Although a rich source of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) that may confer multiple health benefits, some fish also contain methyl mercury (MeHg), which harm the developing fetus. U.S. government recommendations for women childbearing age are to modify consumption high-MeHg reduce MeHg exposure, while encourage among general population because nutritional benefits. The Harvard Center Risk Analysis convened an expert panel (see acknowledgments) quantify net impact resulting hypothetical changes in across population. This paper estimates prenatal intake on cognitive development. Other papers negative exposure development, and extent protects against coronary heart disease mortality stroke adults. aggregates eight randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing development controls children who had received PUFA supplementation (seven studies formula one study maternal dietary supplementation). Our analysis assigns weights accounting statistical precision, relevance three endpoint domains (general intelligence, verbal ability, motor skills) prediction IQ, at evaluation. increasing docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) by 100 mg/day increases child IQ 0.13 points. notes findings were inconsistent RCTs evaluated (although our relatively robust weighting scheme used). Also, seven reviewed, effects extrapolated from intake.
