摘要: This study investigates the effects of anti-metabolite 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) on human colon cancer line HT29 (10(7) cells per dose) grown subcutaneously in severe combined immunodeficient (SCID) mice. The efficacy 5-FU was quantitatively evaluated by comparing tumour weight, mitotic and apoptotic cell indices expression Ki-67 nuclear antigen drug-treated animals control animals. carbohydrates were assessed using a lectin panel. A significant reduction weight found 4 days after initial treatment. treatment reduced percentages mitoses but increased index cells. In addition, induced an increase signet ring population binding for lectins specific N-acetylgalactosamine galactose. However, vast majority negative Ki-67. results this indicate that continuous with targets metabolic processes relevant both division apoptosis. relative can be explained fact more proliferation-active stem is primary target therapy. lectin-binding patterns reflect these changes are therefore differentiation linked.
