摘要: Leishmaniasis is a neglected tropical disease caused by kinetoplastid protozoan parasites belonging to the Leishmania genus. Infection causes wide diversity of clinical manifestations, ranging in severity from asymptomatic infections, self-healing cutaneous lesions (cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL)), mucocutaneous (mucocutaneous (MCL)), diffuse leishmaniasis, and visceral (VL) which can be lethal when untreated. are transmitted vertebrate hosts through bite female sandflies genus Lutzomyia New World. We review here some key aspects Latin America highlight specificities American continent. The vector parasite species poses additional challenges compared situation Old Indeed, this implies that most tools for surveillance control, including diagnostics, control interventions, therapeutic treatments, vaccines, need adapted ensure their efficacy. Further research thus needed optimize Americas.
