摘要: People often claim that they perform better in memory performance tasks when are more motivated. However, past research has shown minimal effects of motivation on factors contributing to item-specific biases during encoding and retrieval taken into account. The purpose the present study was examine generality this apparent dissociation by using sensitive measures experienced performance. Extrinsic manipulated through competition instructions, subjective ratings intrinsic extrinsic were obtained before after instructions. Participants studied a series words, assessed content recall (Experiment 1) source 2). Both experiments showed between actual performance, so increased self-rated but had no including recall. Inconsistent with most people's expectations, findings suggest
