摘要: Abstract The use of carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) for strengthening steel members has attracted increasing attentions in the structural engineering community. However, there is still a lack understanding on mechanisms CFRP tubular sections which are subjected to torsion. This paper presents comprehensive experimental study effectiveness material circular hollow section (CHS) under pure Five different types CHSs with various diameters and wall thicknesses were selected. Furthermore, five schemes used fibers aligned angles respect axial direction CHSs. In order investigate wrapping sequence, spiral (S) reverse (R), mixed S/R schemes, such as SRRR vs. RRRS etc., applied abbreviations scheme, SRRR, refer four layers (R) directions. Various failure modes CFRP-strengthened specimens observed including rupture, crushing adhesive cracking without fiber failure. It was found that CHS larger diameter thickness benefit most from scheme. addition, S be effective Finally, achieve best performance system it recommended apply inside. A theoretical model proposed prediction torsional capacities specimens. Reasonable agreement achieved between predictions results.
