摘要: The quantitation of near-trace-element concentrations calcium (25 ppm atomic fraction) with electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) is demonstrated. data collection, an energy-stabilized parallel recording spectrometer, subsequent signal processing, and procedures are described. quantitative results obtained EELS, in the biologically relevant range 1 to 100 mmol/kg, directly compared simultaneously collected previously validated energy-dispersive X-ray (EPMA). experimentally determined sensitivity EELS for Ca detection five-fold better than EPMA, theoretically attainable ten-fold EPMA. However, attainment this technically more difficult limited by specimen thickness. demonstrated study permits three atoms a 10 nm diameter spot organic matrix, field-emission-gun-equipped scanning transmission microscope.
