摘要: The production, learning, and perception of song in songbirds are regulated by a series discrete brain nuclei known as the control system. In most songbird species, system is sexually dimorphic, these dimorphisms become more robust after birds have hatched. seasonally breeding songbirds, grows regresses depending upon context. development seasonal plasticity dependent neurodegenerative processes, which can be ameliorated, at least part, circulating sex steroid hormones. I will describe two areas research that provided important information about how hormonal cell death contributes to shaping behaviorally-relevant circuits. First, sexual dimorphism zebra finch emerges partially due substantial regression female during development. Second, seasonally-breeding transition from non-breeding conditions. controlled laboratory setting where hormones acutely withdrawn, regress only matter hours days. Taken together, results demonstrate study provides an excellent opportunity for understanding changes levels steroids affect degeneration hormone-sensitive
