Sexual Activity and Contraceptive Knowledge and Use Among In-School Adolescents in Nigeria

摘要: Among 2460 secondary school students surveyed in two southeastern Nigerian states only 36% could correctly identify the most likely time for conception to occur. Female were considerably more than males understand timing of (46% vs. 25%); less dramatic differences emerged by residence and grade school. who supplied information about their sexual activity 40% had intercourse; proportion sexually experienced climbed from 26% 14-year-olds 54-55% 18- 19-year-olds. While young women partners roughly age 25% been involved with older businessmen; said they have intercourse frequently are restrict safe period cycle when boyfriends own age. Only 17% active ever used a contraceptive method other abstinence. In focus groups in-depth discussions expressed strong desire better education contraception consequences recommended that both schools parents participate educating people reproductive health.
